I think Jim Thorpe was the greatest athlete ever. Though his life was very sad and hard he still managed to get through it. He was born on an Indian reservation in Oklahoma with his twin brother Charlie. They loved to hunt, play games and compete against each other. However at age though Charlie died from a thyphoid epidemic that spreaded through the school. Later his mom and dad died while he was a tennager and a college student. He ran away from Sac and Fox school and the Haskell Institute. He learned about a school called Carlisle Industrial School. So he decided he wanted to go to school there. He still ran away from Carlisle twice, but came back. He did played three sports in college, track and field, football and baseball. In 1912 he attended the Olympics in Stockholm, Sweden. He won did very well and won the gold for the pentathlon and the decathlon. He instantly became an American hero. In those exact words. His medals were eventually taken away because in 1912 you had to be amatuer. He played minor league baseball and was payed money.
