Andrew Russell, Patricia Roney, Shane Ruljancich and Lindsay Fraser
Andrew and Patricia were the top Harriers today in the 10 Mile race while Shane and Lindsay were the top Harriers in the accompanying 5 Mile race at the 20th annual Stewart Mountain Challenge today, the third and final race of the Thetis Lake Adventure Series. Andrew finished first overall to win the 10 Miler in 1:10:17 while Patricia placed 10th overall of the 103 finishers in 1:18:07. Shane was the overall winner in the 5 Miler in 38:51 and Lindsay won the F40 Division as top master in 53:23. A big shout out goes to Race Director, Gary Duncan, who not only directed and managed volunteers for each of the three races, but he also ran each race and today placed 7th overall in the 5 Mile race and was first in the M60 division in 46:49. The 5 Mile race female winner was Ruby Nicholas, who won the F10-19 age category as well in 40:29, to place 4th overall in the 5 Miler which attracted 40 finishers.

North America's oldest long distance road race
The Around the Bay Road Race (ATB) is a long distanceroad race annually in Hamilton, Ontario. The event features a 30 kilometer race,[a] a 5 kilometer race, a 10 kilometer race, a 15 kilometer race, and virtual races.[3] First held in 1894, it is the oldest long distance road race in North America.[4]
Since it began, the race has been held every year except for 1917 to 1919 (due to World War I), 1925 to 1935, 1962 (due to construction), and 2020 and 2021 (due to the COVID-19 pandemic).[4][5][6]
History
[edit]The Hamilton Herald Newspaper and cigar store owner "Billy" Carroll, originated and sponsored the "Herald Road Race", the first Around the Bay Road Race, run on Christmas Day, 1894. Thirteen racers ran the 19 mile and 168 yard course around Hamilton Harbour. Billy Marshall won the race and was awarded a $25 silver cup and some boxes of cigars.[4][7][8]
In the early 20th century, Jack Caffery and William Sherring battled it out and won two "Bay" races each. Famed Canadian-Onondaga runner Tom Longboat also took the first major victory of his career here, in 1906.[8]
