The Los Angeles Marathon (formerly known as the City of Los Angeles Marathon) is an annual running event typically held each spring in Los Angeles, California, since 1986. The marathon was inspired by the success of the 1984 Summer Olympic Games hosted in Los Angeles. It is one of the five largest marathons in the country, with more than 20,000 participants.[1]
Since 2020, the event has been sponsored by Asics and is officially titled the Los Angeles Marathon presented by ASICS.
History

[edit]In 1970, a race of length 25 miles (40 km) was held in Los Angeles.[2]
In 1971, the race was lengthened to the distance of a standard marathon – 26 miles 385 yards – and known as the "Griffith Park Marathon".[2] It was held at the same time as the Municipal Games.[2]
The 1972 race was known as the "Municipal Games Marathon", while races from 1973 to 1977 were known as the "Los Angeles Marathon",[a] and the 1978 edition was known as the "Los Angeles Police Marathon".[2][5]
The Association of Road Racing Statisticians (ARRS) has no record of any races in this series after 1978.[2]

EVENT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Participants must be 16 years or older on race day, March 18, 2018 to enter the 2018 Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon. There is no age minimum for participation in the LA BIG 5K.
The 2018 Skechers Performance Los Angeles Marathon has a maximum net race day finish time of six hours and 30 minutes (6:30:59 from the time the last runner crosses the start line). The Marathon course will reopen for public use on a rolling schedule based on this time limit. Participants that fall behind this pace will be directed to the sidewalk and allowed to finish the race, but will not be guaranteed a finishing tim
